During this one-year fellowship, fellows will have the opportunity to rotate through services across BWH, and Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital (BWFH), a community teaching hospital 3 miles from BWH in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. At all locations, fellows will obtain medical psychiatry training in a high-quality tertiary or secondary care hospital under the supervision of experienced C-L faculty. The medical psychiatry service at BWH sees approximately 3500 new consults per year while the service at BWFH sees approximately 2000 new consults per year, both covering patients on the medical/surgical floors and in the emergency department. Collectively, these experiences provide fellows with exposure to a broad spectrum of clinical complexity, robust consultation-liaison psychiatry training, and the opportunity to collaborate closely with diverse medical and surgical specialties across multiple healthcare settings.

For 2027-2028 academic year, we are recruiting five fellows, split between two tracks. In the general track, fellows develop subspecialty expertise through an inpatient liaison experience and a variety of ambulatory clinic options. All fellows work with oncology patients, as this patient population is admitted to Brigham medical floors. The psycho-oncology track offers additional specialization, combining robust general consultation-liaison training with focused expertise in psycho-oncology and exposure to palliative care through collaboration with MGB Cancer Institute.

In addition to core consultation-liaison training, fellows participate in longitudinal experiences designed to foster both clinical expertise and professional development. Fellows complete a year-long inpatient liaison experience, selecting from areas such as transplantation, neuropsychiatry, OB/Gyn, Trauma, psycho-oncology, or emergency psychiatry. These experiences allow fellows to develop sustained relationships with multidisciplinary teams while cultivating expertise in a focused area of medical psychiatry. Fellows also participate in ambulatory consultation-liaison clinics across a wide range of specialty settings, including oncology, HIV/ID, neuropsychiatry, women’s mental health/reproductive psychiatry, cardiac psychiatry, cancer and transplant psychiatry, and gastroenterology. Through these longitudinal clinical experiences, fellows gain advanced skills in collaborative care, systems-based practice, and the management of complex patient populations. Beyond clinical training, the fellowship is committed to developing future leaders in C-L psychiatry, preparing graduates to build and expand innovative clinical services, advance education and scholarship, and serve as advocates for the field at institutional, regional, and national levels. 

Fellows participate in daily teaching rounds, weekly teaching case conference or bedside rounds, journal club and weekly didactics. Fellows receive individual supervision both at the bedside and in formal sessions. Fellows also participate in a scholarly project during their time in fellowship and have an opportunity to present this work at the end of the academic year. Within the Division of Psychiatry in Medicine, fellows are valued educators and take part in the training and supervision of psychiatry residents as well as Harvard Medical School students. The fellowship program is affiliated with the Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School Residency Program. Through intentional mentorship and sponsorship, we strive to cultivate each fellow’s unique career path, providing thoughtful guidance, advocacy, and opportunities that prepare trainees to become leaders in the field.
